HURRICANE DAMAGE - WHERE TO BEGIN?
Having
lived in Florida for more than 40 years, I'm certainly no stranger to
hurricane damage. I'm also quite familiar with the warning signs posted
all over the county following a hurricane:
"Licensed Contractors Only"
While
extremely disappointing, it's not uncommon for people to take advantage
of victims following a hurricane. Don't allow yourself to become one
of those victims. Sure, saving a few dollars here and there will sound
like a fantastic idea a the time. However, you WILL pay later on AND, if those unlicensed contractors are caught, they will pay too!
If you're experienced with home repair & renovations AND
you use proper safety equipment, you may want to start your repairs
yourself as soon as possible. Waiting for your insurance company to
come through can and will
lead to even more damage. With that said, materials and machines
required to perform those repairs are going to be limited in your local
area and, if they ARE available, you're going to have to deal with price gouging (another disgusting act people practice following a hurricane).
Following Irma, I was able to obtain an abundance of necessary repair supplies through Amazon AND
I didn't have to worry about price gouging. To assist you with finding
some of the items you will need, here's a list of the common items I've
had to purchase following a hurricane. You can click each one to see
the prices on Amazon:
If you're not experienced in home repairs and you're concerned about finding a LICENSED contractor capable of doing the work in a TIMELY manner, I would strongly suggest Amazon's Home Services. They have LICENSED contractors for any and every repair you need AND you can read all of their reviews BEFORE you hire them. Another big plus? You don't pay until the job is done! Here are some of the services they offer:
Above
all else, stay safe! Dangers can be hidden in places you'd never think
of and many casualties occur during the aftermath of a hurricane.
Don't become a statistic. Be smart!
